Design, Comfort and Battery Life
The charging case adopts a glossy baking varnish process, which feels like a ceramic texture. Different from most blacks on the market, it is a very special brown with a metallic luster. The USB-C charging port, indicator lights and multi-function buttons are all designed at the bottom.
SoundPeats Engine 4 is a bean-shaped cavity design with a built-in coaxial dual dynamic unit – so, which is relatively large in size and weighs 6.7g. The part connected to the sound outlet is transparent, and the golden dynamic unit in the earbud can be seen.
Engine 4 fully conforms to the ergonomic structure, and its triangular shape just fits the auricle perfectly. The stability of wearing is not bad, shaking your head and walking will not fall. Since the earbuds do not support Active Noise Cancellation, the in-ear fit design can be regarded as increasing the passive noise cancellation effect.
The battery capacity of the earbud is 50mAh, and the charging case is 350mAh. The single battery life is up to 12.5 hours with SBC, 11 hours with AAC, 7 hours with LDAC codec, and the overall battery life is up to 43 hours.
Connectivity, Control and APP
The earbuds uses the Bluetooth 5.3 chip and supports SBC, AAC and LDAC codecs. When connecting for the first time, just select “SoundPeats Engine 4” in your phone’s bluetooth device list to connect quickly. Open the charging case for subsequent use to connect to a successfully paired bluetooth device. The earbuds has a stable connection with the phone within 10 meters. In an environment without obstacles, the connection will be intermittent if the distance from the mobile phone is more than 10 meters.
Also, Engine4 support multi-point connection, which can connect two bluetooth devices at the same time. However, enabling the dual-device connection function requires turn off the LDAC codec.
The interface of the SoundPeats APP is very simple and has very few functions – it doesn’t even support touch control changes. The brand has accumulated a certain reputation, and the software is still at an elementary level.
All touch controls for SoundPeats Engine4 can be done on the earbuds:

- Double-tap L or R earbud – answer/end call

Calls, Videos and Game Playback
Engine 4 supports low-latency game mode with the lowest latency as low as 70ms. After turning it on, you can obviously feel the reduction of latency, and the audio and picture can basically be synchronized.
Also, watching videos is no problem – it works flawlessly on both Android and iPhone with perfect sound and picture sync.
Call quality is less than satisfactory. Videos and calls are flawlessly received with clear sound in quiet environments. The SoundPeats Engine 4 struggles to get your voice loud and clear enough when there is noise around. They perform even worse when there is wind noise.
Sound Quality: Really Surprising
SoundPeats Engine 4 adopts coaxial dual dynamic drivers design – 10mm titanium-plated composite diaphragm unit + 6mm titanium-plated diaphragm unit – the same multi-drive unit design as SoundPeats Opera 05, the difference is that Opera 05 has three drive units. At the same time, it also has acoustics conduit physical frequency division + electronic frequency division technology, and the blessing of double frequency division technology makes the sound level more distinct. It also support LDAC codec up to 990kbps – however, LDAC’s signal stability needs to be improved.
The hearing sense of Engine 4 is very good. Although the soundstage is not too big, it still tries to make the soundstage as large as possible – which makes its sound not feel crowded.
Thanks to LDAC codec, the high frequency of SoundPeats Engine 4 is more delicate and rich. The medium-frequency vocals are also excellent – the female vocals in particular are very sweet and detailed. And Engine 4 doesn’t deliberately add a lot of low frequency to create “ambience” – so, the sound line is clear, bright and natural. Although the performance of the male voice is slightly younger, the overall sense of hearing is fresh and has a touch of sweetness.
Verdict
SoundPeats Engine 4 is a music earbuds – the biggest feature is sound quality and battery life. The volume of Engine 4 is relatively low, and the same volume is 15% to 20% lower than other TWS earbuds. In addition, enabling the dual-device connection function will conflict with LDAC.
So, if you don’t care about LDAC codec, you can choose TOZO Crystal Buds which are also music earbuds with low price – it has IPX8 waterproof rating and 8 hours playback.
