02/ Bose Sport Earbuds teardown
Let’s continue to disassemble the earphone part of Bose Sport Earbuds. Compared with Bose denoising earbuds, Bose Sport Earbuds are smaller and lighter.
On the surface of the shell, there is the Bose brand Logo. The left earphone supports double-click, and the right earphone supports long-press and double-click. The volume adjustment function can be enabled in the mobile APP.
The design of the left and right earphones is different. There are a little array of openings on the right earphone shell, which are used to pick up ambient sound during a call and assist the noise reduction function of the call.
There are also a few holes on the bottom shell of the right earphone, while the left earphone does not. The common dot opening is the indicator light.
There is a microphone in the dot matrix opening to pick up human voices during a call.
The opening of the infrared optical sensor is used for ear detection.
The strip pressure relief hole balances the air pressure inside the earphone.
There is also a strip-shaped pressure relief hole near the infrared optical sensor near the mouthpiece for tuning.

There is the Bose logo on the inside of the earmuffs.
Disassemble the earphone shell along the parting line.
The speaker unit, sensor, and charging contacts in the sound cavity are connected to the main board through FPC and connectors.
The internal structure of the right ear.
Let’s take apart the left earphone again.
The internal structure of the left earphone.
Comparing the left and right earphone shells, the left earphone does not have a capacitive touch sensing FPC, so it only supports double-click operation.
The internal structure of the sound cavity of the left and right earphones is similar. There are two microphones in the right earphone for calls.
The layout of the left and right earphone motherboard circuits is slightly different.
Let’s first take a look at which chips are used in the right earphone.
The FPC used for touch detection has coded information on it.
The sound pickup holes of the call microphone are arranged in a dot matrix with a dust-proof net inside.
The mezzanine in the housing integrates a bluetooth antenna, which transmits signals through the contact and the Pogo Pin on the motherboard.
The touch detection FPC is pasted on the shell using double-sided tape.

The main control chip of Bose Sport Earbuds is Qualcomm QCC5127. Qualcomm QCC5100 series chips integrate digital active noise cancellation technology, quad-core processor architecture, built-in dual-core DSP audio subsystem, support the latest TWS+ technology, that is, dual-channel synchronous transmission technology, wireless latency is lower, and more valuable is that in the voice Compared with previous calls and music streaming, the power consumption can be reduced by up to 65%. However, Bose wireless earplugs do not support active noise reduction. Qualcomm QCC5127 mainly plays the role of audio processing, call noise reduction and bluetooth signal processing.
It is understood that BOSE, SONY, 1MORE, Edifier, vivo and other brands have adopted Qualcomm solutions in large numbers.
Continue to disassemble the sound cavity part.
The nickel sheet on the positive electrode of the battery is in contact with the edge of the main board.
The nickel sheet on the negative pole of the battery is in contact with the Pogo Pin on the motherboard.
A large amount of sealant is used at the joints of the shell to improve the ability of dust and water resistance.
Remove the button battery.
The button battery supplier comes from VARTA, model CP1254 A3, diameter 12mm, height 5.4mm, rated voltage 3.7V, rated capacity 0.2Wh.
According to 52audio, many world-renowned brands including Apple, Samsung, Sony, BOSE, B&O, Microsoft, Amazon, Jlab, etc. have adopted VARTA button batteries in large numbers.
The other side of the battery is covered with yellow high temperature insulating tape.
The internal circuit of the sound cavity.

Three LED indicators, the white gasket on the top plays a soft light effect.
There is a large amount of sealing glue in the sound cavity to fix the FPC and the battery. This position is the charging contact of the earphone.
Infrared optical sensor for in-ear detection function.
The connector of the speaker unit FPC and the motherboard.
The unit’s inverting hole part uses a separate plastic module.
Disassemble the shell at the ear, there is a speaker unit inside.
The shell is also sealed with a large amount of glue to improve dust and water resistance. There is a small magnet in the middle of the shell to strengthen the magnetism of the speaker, and the opening is used to pass the speaker cable.
The bass reversal hole located at the edge of the sound cavity.
On the side of the speaker unit, an infrared distance sensor is also placed under the unit for in-ear detection. The in-ear detection component configuration is the same as the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds true wireless noise-cancelling headphones.
The speaker unit size is about 9mm.
Let’s take a look at the components in the left ear. There is no FPC for touch detection inside the shell, and the shell has an integrated antenna.
Circuit on the motherboard side.
Circuit on the other side of the motherboard. Most of the ICs on the left earphone motherboard are of the same model as the right ear, except that an acceleration sensor has been added (see the figure below).
An acceleration sensor with silk-screen FA CN8 detects the tapping operation.

03/ Summary
Bose Sport Earbuds is Bose’s new generation of basic true wireless bluetooth earphones. It was released at the same time as Bose Sleepbuds™ II. There are many similarities in appearance design to structural design and materials, and they are distinguished in function.
The Bose Sport Earbuds charging case is relatively flat. The power is input through the USB Type-C interface. The charging case has a built-in NXP QN9080 high-performance bluetooth low energy SoC single chip, which is responsible for battery charging and discharging, charging case control and other functions, and can pass bluetooth It is connected to the mobile phone for easy firmware upgrade. The charging case also uses TI Hall sensors, linear chargers, synchronous boost ICs, synchronous rectification and step-down converters to realize complete power management; soft pack battery capacity is 500mAh. The charging case does not support wireless charging. Although it is not waterproof, there are protective measures at the joints of the charging interface and the charging cockpit.
In the earphone part, Bose Sport Earbuds uses Qualcomm’s flagship chip QCC5127, supports bluetooth 5.1, is responsible for audio processing, call noise reduction and bluetooth signal processing, etc.; the right earbud uses two microphones for calls, supports multiple touch operations, and the left earphone If there is no microphone, the accelerometer supports tapping operation. Pay attention when using it; the earphone retains the dual optical in-ear detection design of Bose Sleepbuds™ II. The speaker unit size is the same 9mm but the materials are different, and the bass port takes up less space; The button battery comes from VARTA with a rated capacity of 0.2Wh and 54mAh.
From the disassembly point of view, Bose Sport Earbuds retains some of the selling points of the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds flagship product. For example, the charging case uses a bluetooth SoC chip, the earphone uses advanced shark fin earwings, supports dual optical in-ear detection, and bass inverted holes to enhance sound effects Wait. And the product is smaller in size and lighter in weight. It supports IPX4 waterproof and sweat proof. Like the product name, it is suitable for consumer groups who like sports and do not need active noise reduction.

I cannot reset the device, delete previously paired devices, and update for troubleshooting purposes. I’ve tried all of the official troubleshooting instructions. It is stuck on previously paired devices. (When the headset is in pairing mode, it searches for old paired devices) When I want to update from “btu.bose.com”, the USB port that I connected the headset to detects the connection, but I cannot update due to the error message; “It looks like your case is empty…”. Do you have any suggestions for a solution?
Sorry, I don’t have any good suggestions for your situation either.
