With many flagship smartphones canceling the 3.5mm headphone jack, all kinds of true wireless earphones have already flooded. At the same time, I also found that in the same homogeneous environment, it is difficult for you to find a true wireless Bluetooth headset that has its own style and characteristics and is suitable for sports.
So in this review, I brought the JBL REFELCT X600 that I just started. What is the difference between it and ordinary Bluetooth headsets, and whether it works well or not, let’s take a look.
Appearance design: distinctive sports design, earphones also need recognition
Remove the packaging, the accessories of JBL REFELCT X600 earbuds are basically the same as other wireless earphones, including replaceable silicone eartips and charging cables of different sizes. The charging cable uses orange color matching, which seems to have a youthful taste.
In terms of earphones and charging cases, JBL X600 has a total of four colors: meteorite gray, lava red, amber yellow and forest green. I personally bought the amber yellow. It uses a combination of yellow and gray. At first glance, it may not look like a true wireless Bluetooth headset. Many true wireless Bluetooth headsets are imitating Apple or similar When designing, JBL REFELCT X600 finally brought a touch of unique freshness.
In terms of the material of the charging case, the yellow part of the large area is made of soft rubber material, and the gray part is made of hard plastic material. I think this color combination is pretty good, and I really like the touch of the rubber material. In addition to being non-slip, you don’t have to worry about scratches even if you use it outdoors for a long time.
There is also a sling at the top of the JBL REFELCT X600 charging case. If it is hung on the backpack, I think it can become an ornament.
There are four indicator lights on the bottom of the side of the charging case. Through different flashing methods, the battery level, as well as the status of the earphones and the charging case can be learned in real time.
The Type-C charging interface is designed on the side of the charging case, and there is also a rubber plug. If it rains when you use it outdoors, you should not worry too much.
The opening method of the charging case is also obviously different from the traditional true wireless headset charging case. Then I tried the one-handed opening and closing and the one-handed taking out the headset, and found that there was no problem.
The headset unit of JBL REFELCT X600 is also designed with a three-dimensional effect. There is a clear JBL logo on the outer part of the headset. By touching this position, you can also achieve a series of operations such as calling, controlling music, controlling the volume, and turning on the voice assistant. When running at night, this position also has obvious reflective effect, which plays a role in protecting the safety of running.
The JBL REFELCT X600 is all covered with a layer of silicone material except for the touch position on the outside. The weight of a single earbud is about 5.4g. JBL calls it a wingless lightweight design. I tested the stability of the wearing and found that although there is no earwings design, the threaded grip structure is used in the contact position with the human ear, so the earphone will not fall even if it is worn during strenuous exercise.
JBL REFELCT X600 also supports mainstream smart sensor start-stop functions. Simply put, it has a built-in sensor that can detect the wearing state in real time. When you listen to a song, any earphone will be automatically paused when you remove it, and it will automatically play when you put it back on.
Actual use: open the cover to connect, Bluetooth 5.0 connection is stable
JBL REFELCT X600 supports dual host mode during use. After opening the charging case cover, two earphones will be connected to your device at the same time. You can take out two earphones to enjoy dual-channel stereo, or you can take out any one. The headset is used alone.
In terms of connection stability, I also tested it briefly at home and found that it can be played steadily when the distance is within 10 meters, with a wall separated. If there are two walls separated by a distance of 10 meters, there will be intermittent situations. Generally speaking, the connection can be very stable in most cases.
About sound quality
JBL is a 70-year-old speaker brand. You can see it in many music festivals, movie theaters, and some high-end cars. In terms of sound quality tuning, no one should understand sound better than JBL.
JBL REFELCT X600 is equipped with a 6mm dynamic driver. Each of JBL’s headphones has passed the signal test and acoustic tuning of the Harman Acoustics Laboratory, and its sound quality meets the “Harman Headphone Curve” standard. So when you just heard the sound of JBL REFELCT X600, you can feel that the sound is very positive. Although the overall sound is mainly biased towards the mid-bass part, the three-frequency connection is very good, the overall sound is very durable, and you can also clearly I feel that in the bass part, it sounds more flexible than other Bluetooth headsets, and the rhythm will be stronger. JBL also gave the reason for such a training: rhythmic concerts are easier to play the role of music in driving emotions, and you can be more passionate when exercising, which can improve the effect of exercise. I also tried to listen to some popular songs and folk songs that I usually like to listen to, and found that as long as I put on headphones, I feel a sense of energetic youth.
Battery life
I mainly use JBL REFELCT X600 for commuting, or when I go for a run. The use time is basically less than 1 hour each time, so every time I use it, I have never encountered a situation where the headset is out of power. So later, I also checked the official data. The JBL REFELCT X600 can listen to music for 4 hours when it is fully charged. If it is used with the charging case, it can be used for up to 16 hours.
About waterproofing
For true wireless Bluetooth headsets, it seems that most of them support IPX4 anti-sweat level, and they are normally worn and used without water. However, JBL REFELCT X600, as a sports headset, takes into account outdoor rain or other special environments, so it directly supports IPX7 waterproof level. Simply put, if you wash it with water when it is dirty, or soak it in water for a short time, there will be no problem with the headset, so even if you wear it to swim, there will be no problem.
Summary
In general, JBL REFELCT X600 impressed me a lot, mainly because of its highly recognizable appearance, stable wearability, IPX7 waterproof, and sound quality that has been tuned by Harman Acoustics. Other Bluetooth 5.0, open Cover connection, smart sensor start and stop, call noise reduction, voice assistant and other functions are also available, and the overall use still meets my expectations.
Of course, if you want to talk about the shortcomings as usual, I think if you can increase the wireless charging function, the sense of technology will be stronger. If you use it with a mobile phone that supports reverse wireless charging, you will basically never have to worry about battery life. What do you think?
