In recent years, the development of true wireless earphones has been rapid, and there have been great leaps in terms of function and sound quality. However, although there are many designs, there are really many things that people can remember. Recently TAOTRONICS has launched their new product——SoundLiberty 80, with a unique design and no obvious bias in experience. Let’s take a look.
Unboxing and product details
Speaking of the TAOTRONICS brand, it is estimated that many friends are unfamiliar with it. Here is a brief introduction: TaoTronics is a brand under the Sunvalley Group. Many products are ranked in the forefront of Amazon, Ebay, and Newegg in Europe, North America, and Japan. Mainly engaged in 3C digital audio and video products. Sunvalley Group is a pioneer and leader in China’s cross-border e-commerce retail industry. Headquartered in Shenzhen, it has established branches in the United States, Germany, Hong Kong, and Japan. Sunvalley’s brands are “RAVPower”, “TaoTronics”, “HooToo”, “Uspicy”, “VAVA”, and “Anjou”.
Although the shell material of TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 charging case is ABS engineering plastic, it uses a matte white coating, and the texture is much better than the reflective plastic of Airpods. The overall shape is mellow, the volume is controlled reasonably, and there is an inexplicable sense of luxury in the hand.
There is a small switch on the back to display the battery level, and the metal shaft is exposed. This design element is quite similar to airpods.
The Type-C at the bottom of the charging case can be used for charging. The built-in battery capacity of the charging case is 420mAh, and the battery of the earphone is 30mAh. The charging case can charge two earphones 6 times. The battery life is quite good.
Since the charging case has a vertical shape and a small width, it can be easily opened with one hand. Open the cover to see more exposed parts of the earphone cavity, and it is more convenient to grab with two fingers.
In the TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 earphones part, the most eye-catching part is probably the earphone handle. The design here is quite interesting. The electroplated coating shows different colors under different light, and sometimes it appears in a two-color transition. This color scheme reminds me of some limited editions of Gunpla, or the exquisite snowflakes in “Frozen”. The psychedelic colors are very eye-catching.
From the picture, everyone estimates that its earphone handle is longer than ordinary earphones. In addition to improving the aesthetics, it is more important that it supports up and down sliding operations in terms of gesture operations (left earphone sliding to switch songs; right earphone sliding Adjust the volume), this design is quite creative. At present, it is rare for true wireless headphones to support volume adjustment, but it completely abandons the usual single-click/double-tap method, and realizes volume adjustment through sliding operation, which greatly reduces the learning cost. You can imagine that a true wireless earphones can achieve various functions through single-click, double-click, and triple-click, which requires a lot of learning costs for the user’s memory.
TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 also supports wake-up voice assistants. The mobile phone I use is iPhone12pro, which perfectly supports Siri, so this earphones has integrated all the functions of calling and listening to songs. We can do it without taking out our mobile phones in our daily use. Easy to control.
In the sharper place at the bottom of the earphone handle, you can see the microphone here. This earphone supports voice noise reduction. Smart call noise reduction technology will bring clearer voice to the other party. In addition, the in-ear detection function will only appear on headphones above $100, and TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 also has it.
In terms of wearing, semi-in-ear headphones are not bad. Compared with in-ear headphones, it will not cause too much pressure on the ear canal, just like flat-head headphones. It is worth mentioning that TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 supports IPX6 waterproof level, which is the highest waterproof level so far, which means that if it gets dirty, you can just throw it into the water for cleaning! However, the charging case is not waterproof, and everyone needs to pay attention to this. So wearing TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 headphones for running and fitness is also very reassuring.
Subjective sound perception
Still using iPhone12pro as the front end, TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 earphones can support aptX, but due to mobile phone factors, only AAC status can be activated. But even so, the sound still makes me not forget. In terms of the overall sound style, TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 is a typical dynamic style. There is no tight texture in any frequency band, and it is presented in an open, natural and loose form. The overall performance of the sound is thicker, but it retains a good amount of information and does not appear dull and fuzzy.
In terms of tri-frequency distribution, TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 is still based on balance. Its high frequency part has moderate brightness and fine lines; the middle frequency part of the human voice is close to the ear, and the image looks healthy; the low frequency extension is a little deeper than airpods2 . The overall thickness of the sound and the balanced tuning style are vivid but not without a bottom line. It is a sound that attracts ears.
Summary
TaoTronics SoundLiberty 80 is well-made and has its own creativity and style in appearance design. The gesture operation sensitivity of the earphone handle is high, and there is no problem of poor function. In terms of sound, I think it belongs to the type suitable for all ages. There is no obvious bias. The tuning level is relatively good, and it is a completely different style from airpods. The overall performance is quite balanced. If you are a student or office worker, you can do the job whether you use it for phone calls or for entertainment.
