Baseus Bowie H1i review: 100 hours battery life with LHDC codec

The advantage of Baseus Bowie H1i is 100 hours battery life and LHDC codec. It’s rare to see over-ear headphones with 100 hours battery life under 50 US dollars. But they are not perfect, do not support multipoint connection and transparency mode.

Baseus Bowie H1i specs and features:

Design, Comfort and Battery Life

The appearance of the Baseus Bowie H1i is a minimalist design, and the head beam and earmuffs adopt an exquisite frosted process. The outside of the earmuffs is a glossy finish with a little translucent texture.

The headphones adopt an over-ear design, which can not only provide a comfortable experience, but also have a good passive noise cancellation effect. The retractable bracket is made of PC+ brushed stainless steel, and the connection between the head beam and the earmuffs is made of powder metallurgy arms with stepless adjustment function. The headband and earmuffs are lined with soft skin-friendly leather wrapped with elastic sponge – very soft and comfortable to the touch.

The control buttons and interfaces of the headphones are relatively rich – the ANC button is on the left headphone, and the right headphone is equipped with multi-function button, volume buttons, USB-C charging port and 3.5mm audio interface.

As someone who wears glasses, comfort is a top priority for me when picking out over-ear headphones. Baseus H1i’s head-beam angle and clamping force are very friendly. With the soft earmuff lining covering the ears, there is almost no pressure on the temples of the glasses – the overall wear feeling is still very comfortable.

The Baseus Bowie H1i has a 600mAh battery with up to 100 hours of battery life – and up to 70 hours with ANC on.

Connectivity, Control, Game and Video Playback

Baseus H1i adopts Bluetooth 5.3 chip and supports SBC, AAC and LHDC codec. The connection is very stable with no disconnects during calls, games, and listen music. Support low-latency mode with the latency as low as 38ms.

Baseus Bowie H1i supports two connection methods – wireless and wired. There is an advantage to using the wired connection – you get a great gaming audio experience. Not only is there no latency when playing games, but also the details of various sound effects can be heard very clearly. For example, the sound of footsteps and gunshots in the game is very real.

Generally, playing games and watching videos is no problem – it works flawlessly on both Android and iPhone with perfect sound and picture sync.

Some basic controls of the headphone can be done on the buttons:

  • Single-tap multifunction button – play/pause music
  • Single-tap multifunction button – answer/end call
  • Double-tap multifunction button – spatial audio
  • Triple-tap multifunction button – low-latency on/off
  • Tap and hold multifunction button – decline
  • Tap and hold volume- 1.5s – previous song
  • Tap and hold volume+ 1.5s – next song
  • Single-tap volume button: volume+/volume-
  • ANC button – orange on/ black off

ANC Noise Cancellation and Calls

Before ANC is turned on, the sound insulation performance of Baseus H1i can completely eliminate the sound of passers-by. This is also an obvious advantage of over-ear headphones – as long as the earmuffs are wrapped well, their passive noise cancellation capabilities will be very good.

The noise cancellation depth of Baseus Bowie H1i is 38dB. With the ANC turned on, motor vehicle engine noise, tire noise and background sounds are noticeably reduced – about 70% of the noise is eliminated.

The noise in the square is very complex, there is music playing, the voices of adults and children, the sound of the fountain and so on. After turning on ANC mode, I really feel that the whole world is much quieter. First of all, the human voice can be heard to become smaller, and the sound of the fountain is basically eliminated by 65%. As for the sound of music in the shopping mall, it is actually difficult to be completely processed by headphones, because there are high-frequency, mid-frequency, and low-frequency sounds – it can reduce noise by about 60%.

Unfortunately, Baseus Bowie H1i does not support transparency mode. Friends need to pay special attention to safety when using it outdoors.

The call quality of the Baseus H1i is also satisfactory. In a noisy coffee shop, I use the headphone to talk to my friend, and the other party can hear me clearly. This shows that the noise reduction has indeed played a big role, the ambient sound has been weakened a lot, and the human voice has been enhanced.

Sound Quality of Baseus Bowie H1i

The headphones uses a 40mm bio-diaphragm neodymium dynamic driver and has passed Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. Support LHDC codec, the frequency response range is 24bit/96kHz.

The overall tuning style of Baseus Bowie H1i tends to be pop with the tri-frequency are relatively balanced, and it does not focus on low-frequency. The low-frequency extension is a little lacking – but not distorted. The mid-frequency vocal reproduction is very accurate, especially the performance of female voices is close to real, and the energy distribution is relatively uniform.

The timbre of high-frequency and ultra-high-frequency instruments and human voices is relatively accurate without sound coloration. The noise floor control is also okay, a slight background noise can be heard – but within the acceptable range.

The listening experience will be better after connecting Baseus H1i with 3.5mm headphone cable. The problem of low-frequency extension has improved a bit, and the vocals in the mid-frequency and high-frequency will appear clearer. The separation between instrumental and human voices is better – that is, the layering will be more three-dimensional.

Also, Bowie H1i support spatial audio technology, which is an audio algorithm jointly developed by Baseus and WANOS. Create a more immersive surround soundstage by boosting vocals and background sounds. After turning on the spatial audio, you can feel that the music is more present, especially when listening to the Live version of the song.

Conclusion

The main feature of Baseus Bowie H1i is 100 hours battery life and LHDC codec. It’s rare to see over-ear headphones with 100 hours of battery life under 50 dollars, and they also supports Active Noise Cancellation and low-latency mode. Unfortunately, they don’t support multipoint connection and transparency mode – be careful when using it outdoors.
