For the LEGION brand, I have always been stuck in the impression of “e-sports”, including its LEGION computers and LEGION mobile phones, which also give priority to performance. In the newly released Lenovo LEGION Y70 smartphone, although the product name does not add the words “e-sports” or “game”. But after the hands-on experience, I found that it is still a mobile phone with “performance” as its main selling point. It is equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ processor with TSMC’s 4nm process technology.

01/ Appearance & Display
Before the release, the official has been using the “7.99mm” thin and light body as one of the promotional points of the Lenovo Legion Y70 mobile phone. The main reason is that the thickness of many mobile phones is more than 8.5mm, and even reaches 10mm, which is very heavy in the hand.
So at the first hands-on, I used a vernier caliper to measure the thickness of the Lenovo LEGION Y70 phone. The actual measurement is 8.11mm, which is 0.12mm worse than the official announcement of 7.99mm, but it is due to the thickness error caused by the built-in film. The actual weight of the mobile phone is about 212g.
What is more interesting is that the Lenovo LEGION Y70 does not integrate the screen into the middle frame, but protrudes separately. The stepped design is matched with black, which visually narrows the thickness of the fuselage to a certain extent.
It is commendable that the Lenovo LEGION Y70 mobile phone uses a metal middle frame + glass back cover, which is not found in the Snapdragon 8+ mobile phone at the same price (most of which use a plastic middle frame). The middle frame is designed with straight edges and is treated with metal wire drawing, which gives a stronger three-dimensional feeling. The volume button and the power button are both designed on the right side of the phone, using the side fingerprint unlocking, and the fingerprint recognition module is integrated on the power button.
The rear camera module on the back of the phone adopts a stepped design, from top to bottom, it is a 50MP main camera, a 13MP wide-angle macro two-in-one lens, and a 2MP depth-of-field lens. The rear camera module is made of metal, and the back cover is made of Gorilla AG glass.
The front of the Lenovo LEGION Y70 is a 6.67-inch OLED flat-screen display with an advantage of a 144Hz refresh rate. It supports intelligent refresh rate adjustment in five gears of 144Hz, 120Hz, 90Hz, 60Hz and 48Hz, the instantaneous touch adoption rate is 1500Hz, the screen resolution is 2400*1080, and DC dimming is supported. However, the left and right borders of the screen are slightly wider, and the width of the upper and lower borders is OK.
02/ Performance
Performance is one of the important selling points of Lenovo LEGION Y70. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ processor and adopts TSMC’s 4nm process technology, which solves the problems of high power consumption and high heat generation of the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 8 processors. Compared with the Snapdragon 8 processor, both the CPU and GPU have been overclocked, and the theoretical performance has not improved much. However, due to better power consumption control, the actual daily mobile phone use performance is much better.
And the Lenovo LEGION Y70 in my hand is equipped with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS3.1 ROM. The surprise lies in the large running memory of 16GB, and most flagship mobile phones are currently equipped with only 12GB of memory. Lenovo LEGION Y70 is undoubtedly more advantageous to directly use 16GB of memory, which means that more applications can be run in the background at the same time, reducing the situation of killing processes.
AnTuTu’s running score exceeded 1.1 million, ranking fourth in the performance rankings. In the GeekBench5 software, which is biased towards the CPU test, the Lenovo LEGION Y70 scored 1320 points for single-core and 4149 points for multi-core. Compared with the Snapdragon 8 processor, both single-core and multi-core have improved. In the AndroBench software test of the storage performance test, the sequential read speed is 1905.26MB/s, and the sequential write speed is 1832.98MB/s, which is also the current mainstream UFS3.1 flash memory speed.
In the 3D Mark stress test, the Lenovo LEGION Y70 performed well. The best cycle score of the Wild Life Stress Test in the 20-round stress test is 10991 points, and the stability is 91.3%. Wild Life’s best cycle score for the 20-round stress test was 2913 points with 93% stability. The side reflects that the performance can continue to be stable in high-load game scenarios.
03/ Gaming Test
In an air-conditioned room at 26°C, the performance is turned on beast mode, and the 40-minute “Genshin Impact” game test, the average game frame rate of Lenovo LEGION Y70 is 60.4FPS. In the past, the average frame rate of most Snapdragon 8 mobile phones was around 45FPS, and the frame rate fluctuated greatly. In comparison, the performance of Lenovo LEGION Y70 is very good, not only high frame rate but also relatively stable.
In addition to the high frame rate of the game, the temperature of the Lenovo LEGION Y70 is also very well controlled. After the 40-minute “Genshin Impact” game test, the highest temperature on the back of the phone was 40.7°C, and the highest temperature on the front was 40.3°C. Compared with the previous Snapdragon 8 mobile phone with a temperature of up to 50 ℃, the game performance of Lenovo LEGION Y70 this time is not only high frame rate, stable frame rate but also low temperature. This is also directly related to the liquid cooling system adopted by LEGION Y70. The heat dissipation system composed of multi-layer graphene and super large VC, combined with the NTC temperature sensing matrix, provides a good heat dissipation scheme and effect.
In the “Honor of King” game test, the Lenovo LEGION Y70 also performed as expected. Performance When the balanced mode is turned on, the game frame rate is very stable. Keep running at 120 frame rate, the final game average frame rate is 120.7 FPS, and the phone temperature is relatively lower. In an air-conditioned room at 26°C, only a slight temperature change is felt.
04/ Photography
Compared with the powerful performance, the photography performance of Lenovo LEGION Y70 is relatively general. It is equipped with three cameras, of which the 50MP main camera uses an OV50A image sensor and a 1/1.55-inch CMOS. This is a sensor equivalent to the Sony IMX766, which supports four-in-one pixels, outputs 12.5 million pixel photos, and adds OIS optical image stabilization and EIS electronic image stabilization. The other two secondary cameras are a 13MP wide-angle macro two-in-one camera and a 2MP depth-of-field lens.
In the proofs taken during the day, the main camera performance of Lenovo LEGION Y70 is not bad. For example, the building picture taken in the morning above, although the details of the bright parts at the top of the building are somewhat lacking due to the bright light. But the overall look and feel is comfortable, the colors are distinct, the details of the building and the restoration of the color of the leaves near and far are relatively accurate.
When the Lenovo LEGION Y70 is switched to the 13MP ultra-wide-angle, you will feel that the color layering is lacking and the overall color is dull.
Although the Lenovo LEGION Y70 does not have a telephoto lens, the 2x zoom shooting effect can be obtained by cropping. Compared with the default 1x sample, the details are a little blurry, and the noise will increase, but it can be used to shoot distant scenery occasionally.
By default, the Lenovo LEGION Y70 will shoot at night with the main camera close to the real situation seen by the naked eye, and will not be brightened. So the dark places will be darker, and some details will be missing. However, in very dim scenes, the Lenovo LEGION Y70 will automatically increase the exposure time. However, because there is no time to remind, it is easy to shoot blurry pictures with hand shaking.
05/ Battery Life & Charging
With a body thickness of only about 8.1mm and a weight of 212g, the Lenovo LEGION Y70 still has a built-in 5100mAh battery. With the performance of Snapdragon 8+ low power consumption, the battery life has also improved a lot. Equipped with a 68W fast charging charger, it can be charged to 78% in 30 minutes, and it takes about 1 hour to fully charge.
After five hours of testing, there was still 42% charge left. Among them, the game consumes the most power, consuming 22% of the power, which basically meets the needs of everyone’s heavy use for a day, and provides maximum convenience for our daily life. It is only the most basic requirement to meet the long battery life, and the charging efficiency is the key point. We then tested it with a 30-minute charge.
Through testing, Lenovo LEGION Y70 has the ability to provide short-term fast charging for everyone when the battery is almost exhausted. It only takes five minutes to replenish 13% of the power of the mobile phone, and the powerful charging ability is inseparable from power. Surprisingly, the Lenovo LEGION Y70 is equipped with a GaN charger as standard, which can achieve a smaller size with the same power, and can also provide 65W PD power for notebooks and other devices when traveling.
In addition, the mobile phone also supports the bypass charging function, which can effectively avoid the situation of heating while playing games while charging, and prolong the service life of the battery.
