The core competitiveness of Moondrop Moca is to create a true wireless earphones with excellent sound quality and interactive experience by improving configuration and strengthening interaction optimization on the basis of HiFi sound quality. Coupled with the price of $50 dollars, it is a new choice for friends who demand sound quality and interactive experience.

Appearance Design and Comfortable Fit

Moondrop Moca has two extensions to choose from, gray and brown, and both colors are designed in the same color scheme. The gray version has a dark gray top cover and earbud-stem, and the lower half of the charging case and the earbud body are light gray. The brown version also follows this dark and light color combination, but the light part is closer to khaki.

Moondrop Space Travel True Wireless Earphones

The charging case is larger than Moondrop Space Travel and adopts a new design language. The top and bottom of the case are designed with concave surfaces to reduce wear. The charging port and pairing button are both located at the bottom, and the button does not protrude beyond the edge of the bottom. There are three LED lights at the opening of the lid, and the brightness is not dazzling.

The lid is opened in two stages, and the lid and the base are at right angles. The earbuds have enough magnetic attraction in the case, and there is no shaking. It is not difficult to take them out.

Moondrop Moca earbuds adopts long stem in-ear design, and the earbud cavity is moderately full. The comfortable fit is still good, and there is no obvious sense of pressure. The hole at the top of the cavity is much smaller than that of Moondrop Space Travel. The acoustic nozzle is shorter and oval, and there is also a hole nearby. There is no obvious air pressure balance problem, and the passive sound insulation ability is average.

Connectivity, App Support and Controls

The earbuds use Bluetooth 5.4 technology and support SBC, AAC and LC3 codec. When connecting for the first time, just select “MOONDROP MOCA” in the bluetooth device list of your phone to quickly connect. When you use it again, open the lid to automatically connect to the last successfully paired bluetooth device.

Moondrop Moca supports the Moondrop Link App for Android and iOS. The app provides noise cancelling control, LC3 codec switch, control customization, sound mode options, gain adjustment, firmware updates, and more.

The earbud stem area can be touch controlled, and can recognize single-tap, double-tap, triple-tap, quad-tap, and long press operations. In actual use, the recognition accuracy and response speed are good. The clarity of the prompt voice is good, and there is no need to worry about not being able to hear the voice prompt clearly in most environments.

The default control scheme is comprehensive:

  • Single-tap L or R earbud: play/pause music
  • Double-tap L/R earbud: previous/next track
  • Triple-tap L or R earbud: voice assistant on/off
  • Quad-tap L or R earbud: game mode on/off
  • Press and hold L or R earbud for 3s: ANC on/off

Additionally, the MOONDROP LINK APP allows you to customize the switching logic and order of ANC ON/Transparency Mode/ANC OFF. You can also freely switch between the five preset bass modes (Standard/Reference/Ultra Bass/No Bass/Solis Bass).

Battery Life, Games and Video Playback

The Moondrop Moca plays videos without issues on both Android and iPhone. There’s lipsync performance in video apps like TikTok, Netflix, YouTube and Apple TV.

The MOCA also has a dedicated low-latency game mode you can activate from the earbuds. This helps to synchronize the sound effects with the action on your screen, and the latency as low as 55ms. Playing games and watching videos is no problem – only slight latency, does not affect use.

The battery capacity of the charging case is 380mAh and the earbuds is 37mAh. The single battery life is up to 6 hours with ANC off, and the charging case provides an additional 15 hours of battery life. The battery life is up to 4 hours with ANC on. The case charges using USB-C or Qi wireless charging.

ANC Performance, Transparency Mode and Call

Moondrop Moca uses FF+FB Hybrid ANC technology, I think their noise cancelling performance is much better than Moondrop Space Travel. Their processing of low-frequency noise is obvious, and the bandwidth can cover many frequency bands of the bass of vocla. Plus, the ear pressure performance is also good. When taking the subway and bus, MOCA is fully capable of meeting the noise cancelling needs of regular noise.

Transparency mode has no level selection like ANC. The effect of transparency mode has been improved, the naturalness, transparency, and the pickup/playback of vocal are still good – of course, Apple AirPods are still stronger in this aspect.

The anti-wind noise performance is what surprised me the most – they use a physical anti-wind design and do not have a dedicated Anti-wind Mode. After actual testing, even without the anti-wind noise mode, the impact of strong wind on hearing is very well controlled after ANC is turned on, and the impact of wind noise is even lower in the transparency mode. Although it is not completely suppressed, you can still feel it when facing strong winds, but at least it will not have a very serious impact on your hearing.

In terms of calls, the Moca’s sound clarity is good, and the loudness is quite satisfactory. The noise cancelling effect in noisy environments is perceptible, and there is no particularly obvious phenomenon of the algorithm interfering with the voice.

Acoustic Configuration and Sound Quality

Moondrop Moca is equipped with a 10mm TiN ceramic dome diaphragm dynamic driver, which is the same diaphragm material as Moondrop Aria 2. It supports SBC, AAC and LC3 codecs, and the LC3 needs to be manually turned on in the app.

From the actual sound performance, MOONDROP MOCA presents a mellow, slightly warm, and relaxed sound style. Perhaps because of the product positioning, the sense of lines and fullness are very high, thus creating a product that is more in line with the public’s listening preferences (or aesthetics) on the basis of high quality (in terms of the same price).

The low-frequency quantity is moderate, and the thickness and fullness are not sufficient. The elasticity is good, and the low-frequency extension is better than MOONDROP SPACE TRAVEL and MOONDROP NEKOCAKE. The speed of expansion and contraction is slightly fast, and not much reverberation is retained. The ambience and richness are both low. The fullness, elasticity and atmosphere control of Solis Bass are more suitable for traditional pop music.

The distance between the mid-frequency vocals is closer, and the mouth-shaped is slightly smaller than the standard. In the Standard Bass mode, the performance of the vocals will pay more attention to the depiction of the lines, and the texture will be slightly thinner. Switching to the Solis/Ultra Bass mode will be more balanced. The tendency of male and female voices is not obvious, and the suitable voice line is delicate and not too thick. For some sharp female voices, Standard and Reference Bass will be better choices. No matter which Bass Mode, the coloration of the vocals is relatively small.

The high-frequency brightness is moderate, and the overall energy distribution is relatively even, without the stimulation caused by dense energy peaks. The extension of the ultra-high frequency is very good among TWS earbuds (AAC codec), not too early or too fast.

The soundstage is moderate in size, with similar horizontal and vertical distances, and a certain sense of boundaries. The separation and resolution between vocals and instruments are good. The dynamics are moderate, and the transients are good. Except for some basses or cellos that emphasize lines, most instruments can basically take into account both texture and line sense.

Conclusion

The sound of Standard and Reference Bass modes maintains the general style of MOONDROP TWS in basic sound mode, which is relatively balanced, light and transparent; the two modes with added low-frequency will cater to pop music lovers without affecting the overall performance. Combined with the new design, in-ear sensing and wireless charging, it will be a very useful product for a wide range of people at a price of $50 dollars.
