As a leading brand in the field of acoustics, Sennheiser has always been highly sought after in the audio circle. Its IE80 classic and IE800 high-end HiFi headphones have had a good response in the market. However, bluetooth headsets have gradually become the popular choice, and Sennheiser is not to be outdone, launching several bluetooth headsets one after another. Taking advantage of Double Eleven, I started with the Sennheiser CX True Wireless bluetooth earbuds.
The packaging adopts the Sennheiser family-style design style, with gray, white and blue stitching. The front of the box is printed with a rendering of the headset and charging case, and the Sennheiser brand logo and product name are marked on the top.
The left and right sides of the box are the technical parameters and the mobile APP coverage platform. The back provides a detailed description of the features of this headset in different languages.
The box contains Sennheiser CX True Wireless earbuds, charging case, three replacement eartips, Type C charging cable and instructions for use.
The charging case adopts pure black color, the vertical design looks relatively large, and the whole body is frosted. The splicing of the box cover and the box body adds a circle of bright surface texture chamfers as decoration, making the overall look less monotonous. There is a Sennheiser logo with a glossy gravure process in the middle of the top of the box lid, which is very recognizable.
There is an indicator light in the middle of the front of the charging case, and the Type-C charging interface is distributed in the same position on the back.
Open the charging case cover, you can see the two headphones are stored inside. There is a raised area on the top of the box cover near the edge, with a built-in magnet, which automatically attracts the box body after the box cover is closed to prevent the earphones from being lost due to accidental opening of the box cover.
The design of the two headphones is also slightly different from the mainstream design style, and it is not as round as the Sennheiser IE80, but it looks more angular. The headset is mainly square-shaped as a whole, supplemented by a larger R-angle transition at the edge, which appropriately weakens its angularity. There is a bright-faced Sennheiser logo on the outside of the headset, and there is a microphone opening next to it.
The side of the earphone cavity is decorated with a shiny texture like a charging case waist line, and there are two other microphone openings beside it. There are two metal charging contacts inside the earphone cavity, the middle is marked with the L/R logo, and the position near the ear-in part is an indicator light.
In terms of wearing, Sennheiser CX True Wireless gave me a good overall impression. Although the cavity is square and slightly larger, the overall design follows the ergonomic structure. In the normal wearing posture, the inclined ear part goes deep into the ear canal, and the inner side of the cavity is against the tragus to form a stable supporting structure. In addition, three pairs of eartips of different sizes are included, and you can change the corresponding eartips according to your ear canal size and wearing habits.
In addition, the weight of a single earphone of Sennheiser CX earbud is only 6g, and wearing it for a long time will not cause obvious pressure on the ear. After wearing it during this time, it is relatively firm to wear in sports scenes such as walking and running, and there is almost no looseness and slipping phenomenon. Sennheiser CX True Wireless earbuds also support IPX4 waterproof, which can effectively resist the erosion of sweat and rain in daily use and extend the life of the earphones.
Sennheiser equipped this headset with the latest Bluetooth 5.2 chip, which supports decoding of mainstream audio formats such as SBC, AAC and AptX. I believe that friends who often pay attention to bluetooth headsets also understand that the Bluetooth 5.2 protocol has obvious improvements in connection distance, stability and power consumption. According to the actual measurement, it can be connected normally within a radius of about 10-15 meters, and there is no interference or disconnection when wearing it to shopping malls with a large number of people on weekends.
Both Sennheiser CX True Wireless headphones have built-in independent circuits and chips. Any earphone can be used as a host independently, that is, “single ear mode”. Combined with my own use, the single-ear mode is more suitable for driving, cycling and other scenes, and it can take into account your own safety at the same time. In addition, when you go out to play, you can lend to companions who forgot to wear headphones to get closer to each other.
When it comes to sound quality, hardware configuration cannot be avoided. Sennheiser CX True Wireless earbuds are equipped with a 7mm dynamic driver made in Germany. The advantage of the dynamic driver is the surging low-frequency performance.
Take CaiQin’s “渡口”, the low-frequency extension of the beginning drum part of the music is powerful and full of elasticity, which is in line with the advantages of the dynamic driver. The drum beats and strings sound crisp and clean, with a lively rhythm. The vocal part is very transparent, with a clear sense of separation from the sound of the instrument. The vocal is forward and the instrument is backward, creating a strong sense of space. Overall, the tri-band performance is relatively balanced, with no obvious shortcomings and disadvantages.
Listen to a popular music, MaoBuyi’s “消愁”. The tri-band performance is still good, and the sound of the instrument sets off the vocals just right. It is worth mentioning that the hoarseness of the male voice is very prominent, and the sense of substitution is strong when listening to some love songs.
In terms of interaction, Sennheiser CX adopts the current mainstream touch interaction method. You can control music playback, calls, etc. by touching the touch area on the outside of the headset. You can also wake up the voice assistant function of Siri or other Android phones.
Sennheiser also designed the Sennheiser Smart Control APP for this headset, which is currently available for iOS and Android platforms. Take an Android phone as an example. After the headset establishes a bluetooth connection with the phone, open the APP to enter the configuration guide link, and complete the operation according to the wizard.
The mobile APP interface is also relatively simple, with the headset and charging case pictures displayed at the top of the homepage, and the name of the connected device, power information, and corresponding function entry at the bottom. In the equalizer, you can customize the tone of the headset. There are two adjustment methods: spectrum curve and slider. The default is neutral. Click the button in the lower right corner to call up the preset menu, which provides four preset sound effects for blog, movie and Bass Boost. Of course, users can also customize the sound effects according to their own preferences and save them as preset files.
In addition, in the setting options of the APP, you can also set the automatic shutdown time, the side tone percentage, the language of the voice prompt, etc., and you can also upgrade the firmware for the headset or restore the factory settings.
In terms of battery life, although Sennheiser did not clearly give the battery capacity of the headset and charging case. However, combined with the actual experience, a single headset can listen to music for about 8 hours of battery life when fully charged, and the charging case can provide an additional 18 hours of battery life, and the total battery life is at least 25 hours.
Combined with a period of experience, the overall performance of Sennheiser CX True Wireless is fully in line with my impression of this brand. Although the dynamic driver is used like most bluetooth headsets, the sound quality and other experience far exceed similar products. It has to be said that major manufacturers still have a deep accumulation in sound adjustment.
