Appearance Design and Comfort

Sony WF-C510 should be the smallest charging case in the true wireless earphones I have used. The overall is cylindrical, and the surface is matte texture, which is not easy to contaminate fingerprints. The front of the charging case is the LED indicator, and the back is equipped with pairing button and USB-C charging port.

The Sony WF-C510 earbuds uses bean-shaped design, which fit the outline of the ear when wearing. The surface of the earbuds uses matte scrub coating, which has a good texture and can improve comfortable when wearing. The WF -C510 uses the physical buttons design -the button to feedback is good, and the operating panel is relatively large.

Sony WF-C510 continues the excellent wearing comfort of Sony WF-C500 – a single earbud weighs only 4.6g, which is about 17% less than the previous model. The charging case weighs 38.7g, which can bring a good use experience whether it is worn or carried out daily. It is equipped with 3 sets of eartrips of different sizes to choosing the right size can ensure better sound insulation. The eartrips are made of silicone, with good softness control, little foreign body sensation, and good adaptability when put in the ear canal.

The earbuds are more rounded, thinner and flatter. They fit the curve of the auricle to improving the comfortable and stability of long time wear. In actual tests, they can stay firmly on the ears without falling or shaking, whether walking, jogging or exercising.

Connectivity, App Support and Battery Life

The earbuds use Bluetooth 5.3 technology and support SBC and AAC codec. When connecting for the first time, just select “Sony WF-C510” in the bluetooth device list of your phone to quickly connect.

Also, the WF-C510 supports multipoint connection, meaning you can connect it to two devices at the same time and switch between them when you receive a call, or when you pause on one device, and play on the other.

The WF-C510 supports Sound Connect App for Android and iOS. The app provides ambient control, sound effect settings, button operation options, EQ customization, DSEE switch, etc.

The single battery life is up to 11 hours with ambient mode off, and the total battery life is up to 22 hours. The battery life is about 8 hours with ambient mode on. Plus, it supports fast charging function, charging for 5 minutes can play music for about 60 minutes. It only takes about 1.5 hours for the charging case to go from 0% to 100%.

Passive Noise Cancelling and Ambient Mode

Sony WF-C510 does not support Active Noise Cancelling, but only supports passive noise cancelling and ambient mode, which is a special existence among true wireless earphones. After the appearance of the earbuds is upgraded, they fit the auricle more closely when worn, forming a tighter listening space; secondly, the soft eartips fit the ear canal well, isolating some ambient noise – the combination of the two brings a good passive noise cancelling effect. After testing, the WF-C510 can filter out about 70% of ambient noise.

The ambient mode supports 20 levels of adjustment, and you can turn on different level according to your usage scenarios and habits. After turning on the ambient mode, there is no dull feeling, nor is there a strong recorder background noise – the overall listening and wearing experience is still very natural.

DSEE, 360 Reality Audio and Sound Quality

Sony WF-C510 uses Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology, which uses advanced algorithms to compensate for the sampling rate of the sound source and restore the high-frequency sound lost during the compression process to improve the sound quality of compressed audio files. With the DSEE function, you can enjoy rich and natural sound effects that are almost exactly the same as the original sound source.

The 360 Reality Audio can further enhance the immersiveness of listening and more realistically restore the atmosphere of the music scene – this feature is particularly effective for Live music.

Sony WF-C510 is tuned for pop music. The low-frequency is thick and not fuzzy, the extension depth is sufficient, and the transient rebound is strong. The mid-frequency performance is satisfactory, the vocal is more prominent, and the soundstage is relatively close. It has good resolution, can accurately capture audio details, and shows good separation and layering.

The high-frequency part is basically guaranteed to be non-irritating and has a certain brightness. After turning on DSEE, you will obviously feel that the high-frequency performance is much better – the overall sound will be warmer, the female voice will have less burrs, and the sound will be more pleasant to listen to.

Conclusion

Sony WF-C510 performs well in appearance design, sound quality, interaction mode, battery life – It can be said that it is an entry-level true wireless earphones with relatively balanced performance in all aspects, which is very suitable for friends who pursue comfort. At the same time, the price also makes them very cost-effective among Sony headphones.
