TOZO HA1 review: A low-profile version of TOZO HT2?

TOZO has released its latest over-ear wireless headphones – TOZO HA1. The design, workmanship and wearing comfort are very similar to TOZO HT2. Except for the lack of ANC and slightly inferior sound quality – it can be said to be a low-profile version of HT2.

TOZO HA1 specs and features:
  • Bluetooth 5.4 with SBC and AAC codec
  • 70 hours playtime of per charge
  • 40mm composite titanium-plated diaphragm dynamic driver
  • Dual-mode connection & Multipoint connection
  • Comes with USB-C cable, 3.5mm headphone cable, user manual

Appearance Design and Comfort

TOZO HA1 headphone has 4 physical buttons and 2 ports, namely multi-function button (MFB), + button, – button, EQ button, USB-C port and 3.5mm audio port. The number and layout of ports, indicator and buttons are consistent with TOZO HT2.

Both of the earcups and headbeam are made of high-quality imitation protein leather, which is delicate and comfortable to the touch. The slow-rebound memory foam inside can fit the ears tightly and is comfortable to wear for a long time. The design of the headbeam and earcups also fully considers the principles of ergonomics. When worn, they can fit the head and ears well without causing a sense of oppression. The earcups’ full-coverage design for the ears also has a good physical sound insulation effect.

The headphone can be adjusted to different head shapes (no scale display), and the stretching damping is very good. TOZO HA1 adopts a lightweight design and can be rotated 90 degrees and folded for easy storage and carrying.

Connectivity, App Support and Controls

TOZO HA1 supports Bluetooth 5.4 and 3.5mm audio cable connection, and supports SBC/AAC codec. When connecting for the first time, just select “TOZO HA1” in the bluetooth device list of your phone to quickly connect.

Also, the TOZO HA1 supports multipoint connection, meaning you can connect it to two devices at the same time and switch between them when you receive a call, or when you pause on one device, and play on the other.

The HA1 supports TOZO APP for Android and iOS. You need to add the device after opening the app for the first time, and it will automatically connect to the headphone when you open it again. The app provides very few functions, only checking the battery level, sound effect selection (16 preset EQ), custom EQ, EQ zone and OTA update.

The common controls can be achieved with 3 buttons, and the EQ button can switch between 3 sound effects. The default control scheme is comprehensive:

  • Single-tap MFB button: play/pause music
  • Single-tap MFB button: answer/hang up call
  • Double-tap MFB button: game mode on/off
  • Triple-tap MFB button: activate voice assistant
  • Long press MFB button for 2s: reject call
  • Long press MFB button for 3s: power on/off

Battery Life, Games and Video Playback

TOZO HA1 plays videos without issues on both Android and iPhone. There’s lipsync performance in video apps like YouTube and Apple TV.

The TOZO HA1 also has a dedicated low-latency game mode you can activate from the Android and iPhone app or earbuds. The latency as low as 78ms, this helps to synchronize the sound effects with the action on your screen.

The headphone has a built-in 400mAh battery and can last up to 70 hours on a single charge.

Acoustic Configuration and Sound Quality

Left: TOZO HA1; Right: TOZO HT2

TOZO HA1 uses the same 40mm composite titanium-plated diaphragm dynamic driver as HT2, which is rare among similar products. This material diaphragm has a more delicate sound quality and a stronger tri-frequency expression.

The vocals are transparent and warm, and both the high-frequency explosiveness and the low-frequency power are expressed very well. The treble is crisp and bright, and also shows good extension – you can even distinguish the source and location of the sound. Plus, the soundstage is wide and the layers are clear.

Overall, the low-frequency performance is average, but there are excellent preset EQ and custom EQ, which can achieve very good results through adjustment. The sound details are accurately restored, and the high-frequency resolution is good. The overall sound effect is slightly worse than TOZO HT2.

Conclusion

TOZO HA1 supports dual-mode connection (Bluetooth+Wired) and multipoint connection, which is very convenient for multi-device users. Plus, it is equipped with a 40mm composite titanium-plated diaphragm dynamic driver, which provides a good sound foundation for HA1.
